Rayan Semery-Palumbo ’19 joined fellow Yale-Jefferson Award winner J. B. Schramm ’86 to discuss first-gen issues they have encountered and how that experience inspired their service work, both at Yale and since graduation. They also talked about how the service community can become more involved in addressing needs created by the pandemic and in advocating for social change. The webinar, moderated by Patricia Melton ‘83, was co-sponsored by 1stGenYale, along with Yale Day of Service, the Yale Alumni Service Corps, Yale Alumni Association Shared Interest Groups, the Yale Alumni Nonprofit Alliance, and Careers, Life, and Yale.
