Intern with 1stGenYale in Summer 2026

Project Description

This project will entail working with the 1stGenYale Board of Directors and an approximate start date of June 1, 2026 for 240 hours (approximately 30 hours a week for 8 weeks) remotely during the summer. Work includes planning, executing, and/or evaluating several projects.

Responsibilities

  • Create planning guide to help first-generation Yale students find internships, full-time jobs, and leverage the resources available to Yale students. The Guide would include references to Office of Career Strategy and external resources in the areas of interviewing, resume writing, networking and related skills.  

  • Work with alumni to complete mid-career fellowships and related career acceleration experiences for first-generation alumni.

  • Research and identify Yale faculty as potential panelists in webinars for first-generation students and alumni who can provide insights into the economy and future career opportunities.  

  • Assist in identifying speakers for 2026-2027 webinars and in-person sessions for first-generation students and alumni. 

Suggested Skills

  • Strong desire to help Yale’s first-generation and low-income students and Alumni.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Organized with experience working independently on multiple projects.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.

  • Strong collaboration skills.

Anticipated Experiential Outcomes for the Intern(s)

  • Contribute to implementing the mission of 1stGenYale to advance skills, opportunities, and experiences for first-gen low-income students and alumni.

  • Work directly with a diverse group of Yale alumni volunteer non-profit board members, additional alumni volunteers from Yale College and G&P Schools, and students.

  • Effectively plan and implement in-person and virtual events for students, faculty, staff & alumni.

Funding Requirement

Students must secure funding for this internship by applying to Yale’s Summer Experience Award (SEA) or a Yale Fellowship. Information regarding both sources of funds is available at https://ocs.yale.edu/funding-your-experience/
